Agency Guide to the Adults Living with an Intellectual Disability Act (Formerly The Vulnerable Persons Act) - Winkler - in person

The Agency Guide To The Adults with an Intellectual Disability (ALIDA) provides learners with an introduction to the rights of Manitobans living with an intellectual disability.
This 7-hour in-person workshop will support learners to engage in discussion and activities around:
- Manitoba's history of how support for people living with a disability has developed and changed over the years
- Who is impacted by ALIDA
- The seven guiding principles of the legislation
- The differences between the ALIDA and the Mental Health Act
- The importance of language and how it can frame our attitudes and approaches to supporting people with intellectual disabilities
- The nature of supported decision-making, as well as the process and implications of appointing substitute decision makers
- A brief segment on protection from abuse and neglect
- The evolution of the ALIDA and the changes that have occurred and those that are planned for the future

Abilities Manitoba Annual General Meeting

Join us in beautiful Gimli, Manitoba for our Annual General Meeting on June 17 from 10:30-2pm. The meeting will be held at the Waterfront Centre in the Johnson Hall.
