Module 1: What is Employment?

Employment is an important part of life, providing not only increased financial stability but also personal growth, social connections, and community inclusion. For people with intellectual disabilities, the right to access meaningful, paid employment is essential. Historically, choice was restricted to sheltered workshops, where tasks were often repetitive, compensation minimal, and opportunities for growth limited. Today there are many more choices. Modern support approaches emphasize inclusive employment, where people with disabilities work in integrated settings, receive fair wages, and benefit from the same protections as others in the workforce.
