Module 2 - Seeds of Employment

Module 2: Seeds of Employment

Employment is a vital aspect of life, offering more than just financial benefits. Meaningful work gives us a reason to wake up in the morning. It promotes inclusivity, personal growth, and social integration. People with disabilities are more likely to live in poverty and are among the most underemployed. According to Statistics Canada, 28% of working-age adults with disabilities live below the poverty line, compared to 10% of those without disabilities. The unemployment rate for people with disabilities is nearly twice that of people without disabilities. Not only does hiring a person with a disability benefit the individual, but it also brings numerous advantages to the workplace, including increased diversity, improved morale, and access to a broader talent pool. This unit explores the fundamental reasons behind employment and the roles of various supporters in facilitating successful employment outcomes.
