This session will help leaders understand why valued social roles matter and provide practical ways to help people take on roles that connect them to others—whether as family members, employees, volunteers, or through talents and interests.

Getting Rights, Right! – Direct Support Professionals

Getting Rights Right is a full-day, interactive workshop that explores how direct support staff can turn rights from abstract ideas into everyday practice.

Together, we’ll look at the history and laws that shape disability rights, unpack what real choice and decision-making mean, and reflect on the barriers that still get in the way.

Through discussion and practical strategies, participants will learn how to support people with disabilities to take the driver’s seat in their own lives—balancing rights and responsibilities, navigating “grey areas,” and standing beside people as equal citizens.
