The Leading Practice Guidelines continue to be updated and added to! Check out the newest guideline on Valued Social Roles.

This newest guideline challenges us to look beyond activities and services and focus on something more powerful: the roles people hold in everyday life. Roles like neighbour, employee, volunteer, artist, teammate, or community member shape how people are seen, treated, and included.

This guideline explores why valued social roles matter, how they are connected to belonging and relationships, and what organizations and staff can do — in practical, concrete ways — to support people to gain and sustain roles that reflect their interests, strengths, and identity.

If you care about inclusion that goes beyond presence…
If you want supports that lead to real connection and contribution…
This guideline is worth the read.

To support practice in this area we have also created a Guide for DSPs - Supporting Social Roles with Top Ten practical strategies to create the conditions where people you support can build social roles.
