This is a one-day training designed to provide learners with a brief overview of the history of services for individuals that are supported. This is an interactive offering that allows learners to participate in discussions and group activities.
This training is excellent for people working in a direct support capacity. Course participants will learn:
1. A brief history of institutionalization, segregation, isolation, and the importance of inclusion and relationships.
2. Self-reflect on values, beliefs, biases, goals, and experiences.
3. Unique Perspectives of individuals, families, and support professionals.
4. The importance of disability support workers defining their roles in relation to friendships.
5. Giftedness, the importance of being valued and how to think creatively.
6. Where to look for connections within communities and neighborhoods.
